Bulk Beef Choices

Buying bulk will save you money, especially if your family likes steaks and roasts as well as ground beef.  

For whole beef purchase the typical breakdown is 20% Steaks, 30%roasts and 50% hamburger.

You will be able to store an average of 25 pounds of meat per cubic foot of storage space. A half beef would require a 7 cubic foot freezer.

Whole Beef

The whole cow hanging weight is 700-750 pounds. This will include 20% steaks, 30% roasts, 50% hamburger.

Half Side of Beef

The half side of beef hanging weight is 350-375 pounds. This will include 20% steaks, 30% roasts, 50% hamburger.

Quarter Side of Beef

The quarter side of beef hanging weight is 175-188 pounds.  Quarters are standardized and include:
3-4 Chuck / Arm Roasts (around 12 lbs. total), 1 brisket ~4 lbs., 4-6 Ribeye Steaks, 4-6 NY Strip, 4 Filet Mignon, 4-6 Sirloin Steak, Flank or Skirt Steak, 6-8 lbs. Short Ribs, 2-4 Round Roasts, 30 lbs Ground Beef  in 2 lb. packs.
